What might be contradictory?
What assumptions does the novel make about the theme?
What is the wider relevance of the theme?
Your essay should include the following:
An introduction with a thesis, an argument that explains how what youâre saying about this text will help us to understand it
better or help us to understand its relevance to our theme.
Close analysis of specific language from the text (in other words quotations).
Developed body paragraphs (try to break free of the fiveparagraph
essay!) that focus on key points of your thesis and/or
provide background or context for your thesis.
A conclusion that does more than summarize your essay, but considers its larger relevance in some way/s.
MLA formatting and an MLA reference page citation. Page numbers are not necessary for quotations from the novel, but
you must put all quoted text in quotation marks.
