STUDENT (1116)
IN THE UK.
INTRODUCTION & BACKGROUND
This project will be focusing on the effectiveness of healthy eating in secondary schools available in tackling childhood
obesity amongst children in the United Kingdom. Child obesity is defined as any abnormal or excessive fat accumulation in
the human body that may cause harm to health, (WHO, 2013). The trend in child obesity has been on the high for centuries
and is still increasing high (PHE, 2014). Current statistics indicatesthat 19.2% of children aged 1011
were obese and
furthermore about 14.7% were overweight. 9.5% of children aged between 45
were obese and a further13.1% were
overweight. This figures shows that a third of 1011
year olds and over a fifth of 45
year olds were overweight or obese
(National Child Measurement Programme, 2012). Additionally, other data also showsthat appropriaretely 30% of children
aged between 2 15
were either classified as overweight or obese and this number is increasing in the population of
adolescents(health survey for England, 2014).

year olds. 33.5 % of children aged 1011
were obese or overweight and 22.6% children aged 45
were obese or
