What accounts for the vast differences in so many countries, yet how are they similar? In today’s modern world, how can some places lack many things that we, in the west, take for granted? After reviewing the various indices of development data, select two different countries to compare, citing at least 4 different factors that are used and rated. Try to find countries that are of interest to you but also ones that may be dissimilar to at least a certain degree. In other words, don’t choose Sweden and Denmark or Niger and Mali! How do you account for the differences you find? How does their location play a part? Look at factors that indicate education, health, political, environmental, or gender-based levels of development, for example. These are just some ideas. Don’t forget to take a look at the ‘happiness’ index, too. What makes a place happy or more desirable to live in, yet possibly lack other things that seem more developed? Explain your findings thoroughly.
