Requirement of the essay :
In 2007, the Adult Learning Knowledge Centre (ALKC), supported by the Canadian Council on Learning (CCL), released a report titled, mapping the Field: A Framework for Measuring, Monitoring and Reporting on Adult Learning in Canada. The authors of the report articulate a conceptual framework for mapping the various spheres of adult learning. The aim of this assignment is for you to consider the “Spheres of Adult Learning” in reference to your experiences as an adult learner and the philosophical and social paradigms discussed in the course text.
In the assignment section of the course, you will find a copy of the “ Spheres of Adult Learning” document. Think about your experience as an adult learner in reference to the document. Choose one formal experience and one informal experience that you have had and prepare a short essay describing and analyzing each experience. Use the following criteria to guide the writing of the essay:
Briefly describe each experience and discuss which sphere of adult learning it falls under;
Discuss the purpose or intention of the learning;
Which philosophies and social paradigms do you see reflected in your experience? Draw on the descriptions in the text to analyze your experiences (e.g. Do you think the experiences fall under humanism, structural functionalism, etc. and why?). Addressing this bullet point should form the bulk of your essay. You are welcome to cite other academic sources to support the analysis.
In 2-3 sentences, explain if you think the “Spheres of Adult Learning” adequately captures all aspects of adult education based on your observations and experiences.
You will be evaluated on how clearly you describe the experience, the soundness of your analysis, and the way you use the course readings to think about and support your ideas. You will also be evaluated on how well you use APA formatting to cite and reference the course materials.
